The Abbey' s Garden, the Orangerie
The Prelate garden was laid out to french examples on the area of the former city wall after 1731 by abbot Gregorius Schouppe. Set up for the wintering of exotic plants, the orangerie probably was compledet in 1736, according to the plans of Leopold Durand. The statues on the front side of the building illustrate the four seasons. The sculptures had been made by German sculptor Ferdinand Tietz from Wurzburg in Germany.
Municipal Park and the Pavilion
The Pavilion had been build in 1761 by Paul Mungenast in rococo style. An elegant staircase leads to the first floor to a room of 100 square m where an audiovisual programme shows examples of rural architecture as well as the abbey's influence on rural architecture (the show lasts about 15 minutes).
The Fortified Town Wall
goes back to the 10th century in its most primitive form and had been enlarged during the 13th century. It was 2000 m long, had 20 towers and 4 gates. The biggest part of the construction had been destroyed only during the 19th century. The towers which were saved from demolition were sold and transformed into lodgings in 1813.
